ART FROM PJONGYANG KOREA / till 25th October 2008 Print E-mail

For the first time artworks of the most important artist from North Korea are displayed in an official exhibition of the Cultural Ministry of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea at a foreign country.

“The city of Berlin with her changeful history, her experiences during the years of separation and her historical reunification, is a very special city for us Koreans. This is the reason why we present our premiere at this location.” From the foreword by HONG Chang Il, Ambassador of the Democratic People’s Republic Korea.

On September 1st 2008 the exhibition at the Art Center Berlin Friedrichstrasse was opened by the ambassador HONG Chang Il and the director of the Ministry of Culture, KIM Tae Hi.

The exhibition is under the auspices of the International Delphic Council (IDC), represented by General Secretary J. Christian B. Kirsch. The IDC has special contacts toward North Korea, especially concerning the III. Delphic Games of September 2009 at Jeju / South Korea and wishes to bring North Korean artists to the games.

Curators of the project are: CHOI Sang Kyun (South Korea, initiator of the exhibition project) and KANG Won Son (North Korea).
